Nunsense

Nuns have professionals on the run
The musical comedy, Nunsense, about
the little sisters of Hoboken was, I understand, a West End success.
Well, I have to say that Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg or whoever, couldn't
be as fantastic as the cast of Alnwick Stage Musical Society at the Playhouse.
Maureen Reay as the Mother Superior, aided and abetted by Kathleen Sheel,
Lynne Lambert, Clare Allan, Sophie McDougall and Angela Fuller as the
nuns, sang, danced and laughed their way through Dan Goggin's words and
music with verve and vigour.
The musicians, also suitably attired, under 'Brother' Paul Toward*, were
more tuneful than ever, and the audience participated on cue and with
great enjoyment.
I quite understand producer Des Seller's comment that the rehearsals were
intense but fun, and I wonder just how much ad libbing there really was.
Clare Allan was the funniest among the excellent cast, and when she did
the song with the glove puppet, not only did she bring the house down,
but also her fellow actresses. Lynne Lambert was as wonderful as ever.
A full house had a great couple of hours and, of all the ASMS shows, this
one deserves another, and longer, outing at some future date, as long
as the same people play the same parts. DC
